The English Short-Title Catalogue (ESTC), when complete, will contain bibliographic records for virtually every item printed in England, or in any of England's dependencies, 1473-1800. It currently contains about 400,000 records. Appended to each record is a list of libraries which have reported holding a copy of the item described.
The ESTC is a product of the joint efforts of the British Library, the Center for Bibliographical Studies & Research, and the University of California at Riverside, with the cooperation of the American Antiquarian Society and over 1,600 libraries around the world. It is mounted on the Research Libraries Group's Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN), and on the British Library's Automated Information Service, BLAISE-LINE. There are also CD-ROM and microfiche editions.
The ESTC would like to thank the following funding agencies: The National Endowment for the Humanities, The Department of Education, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, The H. W. Wilson Foundation, The Ahmanson Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and The Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation.
